Susan Hutchcraft is the owner and Senior Instructor of NAV Training, a professional training and consulting company founded in 2016. Her approach is shaped by more than two decades of multidisciplinary experience in law enforcement and investigative work; emergency medical and incident response; firearms and defensive instruction; self-defense and use-of-force law; security, risk, and liability assessment; and professional education and instructor development.
Building on that experience, Susan has pursued advanced study in the legal, human-performance, and instructional disciplines that inform effective preparation for and response to critical incidents. Her work includes self-defense, use-of-force, and civil-rights law, as well as human performance under stress, decision-making, communication, emotional intelligence, and resilience. Her extensive study of adult learning, curriculum development, and instructional design further shapes how that training is developed, with an emphasis on realistic application, sound judgment, long-term retention, and effective performance under real-world conditions.
NAV Training takes an integrated approach to personal safety, emphasizing sound judgment, preparation, and practical application alongside technical proficiency. Training is designed around the legal, behavioral, medical, operational, and human-performance factors that influence real-world decisions, preparing people to recognize risk, evaluate changing circumstances, respond effectively under stress, and understand the implications of the choices they make.
Since its founding, NAV Training has educated thousands of students and helped certify hundreds of new instructors.
